My Life in the 1950s

1950

In 1950, my parents bought a new house at 4840 N. 54th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin for about $10,000.

I attended Hampton School, which was about two blocks away.

1951

My friends were the boys who lived down the street, Jon and Gordon Neiskes, and Ron Heilmann, who lived across from them.

But my best friends were Tom Roghan and Jim Reidle. Tommy lived on 58th Street, and Jim lived a block down on 54th Street.

1952

In 1952, the 7th and 8th graders at Hampton School were sent to Rufus King High School, because of crowded conditions. We had to take a school bus to the school. The high school students called us the "tykies".

1952-1958

I attended Rufus King until graduating in 1958. Our class from Hampton attended Rufus King for six years.

1958-1962

Then I entered college at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, majoring in Physics and Mathematics. I graduated in 1962.
